Euroring 4h race / 26. April / Race report
Sometimes, motorsport delivers moments that feel almost unreal. That’s exactly what happened this weekend when our British driver, Tom Day, turned a tough situation into a spectacle of pure racing brilliance.
We were placed in the 2-liter class — up against cars pushing nearly 200 horsepower, while we were significantly underpowered. Still, we pulled off a strong qualifying lap in the dry, putting us mid-grid despite the odds.
But then came the rain. Typical April weather. And with it, something special.
As the race began and conditions deteriorated, Tom rose to the occasion. At first, when he overtook two cars, we assumed they had issues. But he kept going. Passing one high-powered car after another — in the wet, on pure skill. In just 40 minutes, he overtook eight cars, climbing to P2 in class and P5 overall. It was one of those performances that leaves you staring at the timing screens in disbelief.
After 1 hour and 20 minutes, our experienced Italian driver Andrea Reggiani took over and kept a strong pace as the track dried. Unfortunately, gearbox trouble forced us to retire. Damage from a curb — hit during a tense moment when Tom had to avoid a slower car — had cracked the differential casing, draining the gearbox oil. We didn’t realize the extent at first, but 20 heroic laps later, the gearbox gave out.
Despite the early end, this race will stay with us. Because for 40 magical minutes, we saw something truly remarkable — a British driver in the rain, rewriting expectations.
